According to La Nouvelle Tribune, the Senegalese President Macky Sall announced a complete ban on the felling of trees in forests throughout the whole of Senegal. The move comes as a prevention of the overuse and destruction of the Senegalese forests. The measure should therefore remain in force until the forests that were over-exploited will be grown back.

The Senegalese head of state also announced the recruitment of 400 officials of Water and Forests to strengthen the monitoring system. About 40,000 hectares of forests were devastated by the exploitation of wood in Senegal.
