In contrast to sharp price increases for fossil fuels like heating oil or natural gas, prices for wood pellets show just a slight increase of 0.9 % in September 2011. Average price for wood pellets in Germany amounts to EUR 229.90 per tonne (t), as reported by the German fuelwood and pellet association DEPV. Thus, the kilowatt hour of heat from wood pellets costs an average of 4.69 €-cents, a kilogram of wood pellets is paid with 23 €-cents. That means, heating with pellets is still above 40 % cheaper than heating with oil.
