Swedish softwood lumber exports in May (sawn and planed) were down 15% compared to the same month last year. However, volumes exported to Germany amounted to 434.700 m³, almost at 2009 level. Even exports to Norway are developing better than average and reached 366.200 m³. Other important markets such as Britain, Egypt and Holland remained below expectations.
Generally, prices remained stable above the prior year and could, except for planed goods, even show a slight increase in May. Pine lumber was at 2078 SEK / m³ (221 € / m³) about 18% above the May prices of 2009. In spruce lumber, price increases of over 21% to 1961 SEK / m³ (208 € / m³) were even clearer.
