China International Wood Products Summit 2007
15/06/2007 - 15:25

Two-Day Wood Products Conference
• One-Day Industry Tour prior to conference (optional)
• Enhanced Chinese/Int’l Supplier Tabletop Displays
• Networking Sessions
• Six-day Industry Tour following conference (optional)

The fourth edition of International Wood Markets Group’s China International Wood Products Summit (to be held this year from September 22 to September 24 in Qingdao) will uncover the current status and future implications of fast-growing plantations in China — how big a factor will plantations be in driving future Chinese wood products exports?

Millwork and Panel Products, in particular, will be under the conference’s spotlight as international specialists and consultants present up-to-date market data and insights. The product showcase and networking sessions offer tremendous opportunities for international delegates to initiate negotiations for future product-sourcing.

International Wood Markets Group has also organized a one-day industry tour prior to the conference, so that participants can visit millwork factories in and around Qingdao on September 22, enhancing the experience of the conference itself.

The speakers will examine a wide range of topics:
- Where are the current and future wood product opportunities for buyers and sellers in China?
- Which raw materials present new and lucrative opportunities in the face of rapidly changing global supply dynamics like Russian export taxes, certified wood, tropical log export restrictions, etc.?
- How will wood products react to changing Chinese government policy, such as declining value-added tax rebates or increasing Chinese export taxes?
- What is the current status and what are the future implications of fast-growing plantations in China?
- Who are some of the leading wood product manufacturing companies in China and what is their future outlook?

Who Should Attend
• Offshore wood products buyers/importers
• Wood exporters to China
• Industry associations, TIMOs, governments and NGOs
• Those interested in making and/or expanding strategic investments in China
• Those looking to understand the next wave of opportunities at home and abroad

Immediately following the China Summit, September 24th - 30th 2007, IWMG will be guiding a six-day tour of Chinese plantations and high-quality factories across China that utilize plantation and imported wood for export markets. China is becoming a leader in micro-propagation techniques, resulting in the development of fast-growing hybrid species. China is harvesting, as well as consuming, more and more plantation wood due to the increased availability of plantation timber and the growing pressure on Chinese industry from rapidly increasing prices of imported species.

This tour will provide an invaluable opportunity for participants to understand and survey the dynamics of the fast growing plantation industry in China. However, the tour also encourages participants to meet key contacts, as it guides them around some of the top manufacturers in China. Participants will experience the current situation of the wood industry in China first-hand, allowing them to better appreciate the significance of China’s role in the globalization of the wood industry over the past decade.
This all-inclusive one-week tour will focus on:

• Visits to Chinese processing plants using plantation species, including those exporting to offshore markets;
• Visits to Chinese plantation forests;
• Advances taking place in Chinese plantation research centers;
• Plywood and millwork wood products; and
• Plantation species such as poplar, paulownia, eucalyptus, and Chinese fir.
